Sally's Salon really got me hooked, but then perhaps I'm a hairdresser who missed her vocation. It was such fun picking out the styles that the customers wanted and ushering them into the hair washing station or the dryer, and giving them bright colours. With my first pay packet I bought a coffee machine so I could please them even more and stop them getting impatient.

This game is well designed and attractive, with dinky little people who walk about wanting new hairdos. You can tell how happy they are with the service they get at your salon by the number of little love-hearts they have in front of them. They have strong opinions on the looks they want to achieve, and don't like it when you disregard them and go with your own instincts, but such is the life of the creative stylist.

I didn't expect to like this as much as Go-Go-Gourmet, because in real life I like food better than hair styles, but I found it satisfying and addictive in a similar way. You are juggling tasks in a colourful and appealing little world (I love the map screen too, which visually reflects Sally's ambition to run a coast to coast chain of salons) and you get a real sense of success when you finish a shift in the salon and see all the happy and neatly trimmed customers. |
